SMARTLUX
Artificial Intelligence-driven SMART Windows for Dynamic Control of Solar Radiation fLUX
The SMARTLUX project aims to develop a new smart window technology for trains capable of self-adapting to changing environmental conditions inside and outside the wagon, as well as minimizing energy consumption. The proposed smart glass technology is based on the use of new electrochromic materials, in particular a new class of transparent conductive oxide nanocrystals called "plasmochromics", which are able to tune selectively, and above all independently, the transmission of light. solar radiation in the visible and infrared range. Through a network of sensors connected to an electronic system that allows both the thermal and light flux to be regulated, these windows will be able to receive and transmit data to the convoy and guarantee the maximum level of thermal and visual comfort for passengers in any external condition. Intelligent dynamic regulation will also minimize the energy used to heat in winter, cool in summer and light throughout the year. It is estimated that with the installation of these glazing systems it is possible to achieve a reduction of up to 35% in energy consumption compared to the most advanced solutions currently available on the market.
